This year, Reckling Park on campus at Rice University in Houston, Texas, will get a new 1,000-square-foot LED video display from Daktronics of Brookings, South Dakota. The new LED video board will entertain and inform Owl’s baseball fans.
The new display screen extends Daktronics partnership with Rice University’s which includes a significant upgrade for the football field in the fall of 2016. Daktronics points out that its LED video and messaging display technology can provide value and excitement for years to come with featured environmental protection for a long lifetime, consistent performance, and low power consumption.
“Our fans are important to us, and we are happy to enhance their experience with a new video board from Daktronics,” said Rice University Director of Athletics Joe Karlgaard. “Thank you to the University, Judy Allen, and Audrey Ley, and the RBI Club for making this critical investment in Reckling Park.”
The new right field display will measure about 47 feet wide and 21.5 feet high and feature a 15HD pixel layout.
According to the company, the new LED screen will provide crisp, clear imagery with wide angle visibility giving a great view to every seat at Reckling Park. Protective netting that comes with the screen keeps it from being hit by careening baseballs. Advertising panels also come with the purchase to present Rice’s sponsors throughout events.
Variable content zoning enables the display to show one large image or present multiple windows of content such as graphics, animation, live video, instant replays, special announcements, and other event information.
“We’re grateful to continue our long-standing partnership with Rice University through this new project for Owl’s baseball at Reckling Park,” said Dan Fjeldheim, Daktronics sales representative. “This installation will bring an amazing video experience to events at Reckling Park, and we’re looking forward to expanding Rice’s display inventory as they continue to raise the bar for the fan experience at live events on their campus.”
Daktronics Creative Services will also provide the University a content package of graphics and animations to enliven the display for games.
