This summer, Daktronics of Brookings, South Dakota was tasked with designing manufacturing and installing a new LED video display for Jacksonville State University (JSU) at their stadium in Alabama. The university recently unveiled the new display technology inside Burgess-Snow Field at JSU stadium when JSU faced Liberty University.
The Display will again be showcased this Saturday as the Gamecocks host the Eastern Kentucky Colonels. “The new state-of-the-art digital video board is a great enhancement to JSU Stadium,” JSU Athletic Director Greg Seitz said. “JSU is committed to giving its great fans the best game-day experience possible, and with the installation of the largest video board in the Ohio Valley Conference, we are thrilled with the results.”
The new video display features a 13HD pixel layout and measures about 12 feet high by 80 feet wide. According to Daktronics, the display system is the same technology as used at Auburn University, home of the largest video display in college football. Daktronics says that its technology permits wide-angle visibility so every seat in the stadium can view the screen. Furthermore, the company says that the display provides environmental protection to ensure consistent performance in the outdoor elements.
Variable content zoning allows the screen to show one large image or to be divided into multiple zones with any combination of live video, graphics, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics, animations, and sponsorship messages.
“We’re proud to extend our long-standing partnership with JSU Athletics for this new video display upgrade,” said Glen Marts, Daktronics sales representative. “This new installation replaced the previous system we installed 10 years ago. I was excited to see what the new display brought to the already great atmosphere at Burgess-Snow Field at JSU Stadium.”
Daktronics also included its Show Control System with the installation. This system brings together display control software, video processing, data integration, and playback hardware that creates a user-friendly production solution.
JSU Also Upgraded Fixed Digit Soccer Scoreboard
In addition to the football video display, the university chose to upgrade their fixed-digit scoreboard at the soccer field. Also installed this summer, the soccer scoreboard gives fans all the critical statistics and information for an event during a game including time, score, shots, saves, and more.
