Dialog Semiconductor plc reported that it acquired ams AG’s LED backlight technology and product portfolio including LED backlight drivers. Also as part of the purchase, Dialog obtained particular ams intellectual property rights. ams says that the LED backlight products are already in volume production with Asia Pacific TV makers. Dialog says that the transaction is now closed, but the company did not reveal terms of the transaction.
“Dialog continues to execute on its strategy of strengthening its technology leadership in advanced mixed-signal technologies with this acquisition from ams, our second to close in the last weeks,” saidJalal Bagherli, CEO at Dialog. “We are excited about the prospects of creating new products that will provide our customers with next generation, higher quality display solutions for the consumer and automotive markets.”
Direct LED Backlight Arrangements Improve Performance
Dialog Semiconductor says that large panel displays are transitioning from the conventional edge-lit configuration to multi-segment direct backlight arrangements that offer performance improvements, including higher dynamic range and longer lifetime. Dialog’s patented AnyMode™ technology increases the display contrast ratio, facilitates faster image fadeout, and reduces motion blur. Dialog says combining its AnyMode LED technology and ams’LED driver assets will make the company a worldwide leader in display backlight technologies and will help Dialog better serve customers in high-value display applications.
