Cree, Inc. of Durham, North Carolina USA, has introduced the XLamp® MHB-B LEDs. According to Cree, the new high-powered LEDs can help lower system costs for high lumen, high-efficiency applications that are intended to meet the new DesignLights Consortium®(DLC) 4.0 Premium requirements. The LEDs leverage Cree’s SC5 Technology™ Platform.
The MHB-B LED provide up to 931 lumens at 85°C. It has a 13 percent higher lumens per watt efficiency than Cree’s MHB-A LED in the same 5mm x 5mm package. This improved performance allows lighting manufacturers to upgrade MHB designs without any additional investment. The XLamp MHB-B LEDs also feature Cree’s EasyWhite® technology.
“We evaluated many low-cost LED options but found that they require very large PCBs and optics and do not provide good lifetimes,” said Frank Chen, VP fixture department, Shenghui/Sengled. “We selected the MHB-B LED because its leading light output, efficacy, and reliability will allow us to meet increasing industry requirements such as the DLC® 4.0 Premium category at the lowest system cost.”
Cree points out that the new LEDs allow designs that can use significantly lighter and smaller heat sinks than those employing mid-power LEDs. For example, Cree indicates that a high-bay reference design built with MHB-B LEDs can provide 24,000 lumens and more with up to 130 lumens per watt system efficacy and 44 percent less weight. Cree says that such a high bay reference design could have a 36 percent smaller diameter than comparable high bays that employ mid-power LEDs.
The MHB-B uses Cree’s high-power ceramic technology. Tbe LM-80 data for the new LEDs is available immediately from Cree. The new LEDs boast an L90 projected lifetime of 60,000 hours at 105°C.
Dave Emerson, vice president and general manager for Cree LEDs commented, “The new MHB-B LED allows lighting manufacturers to achieve best system value for all high lumen applications including high-bay, roadway, and other outdoor lighting without compromising performance or lifetime.”
The LEDs come in color temperatures from 2700K-6500K with high CRI and multiple voltage options. Product samples are now available. With standard lead times, production quantities are also available.
