U.S. Aircraft Maker Orders SMD LED Modules from Bright LED

Taiwan-based LED packaging service provider Bright Led Electronics reports that it has received orders from a U.S. aircraft maker for SMD (surface mount device) LED lighting modules used in airplane cabins, according to a Digitimes article.

Bright LED began small-volume shipments of the SMD LEDs to the aircraft maker at the end of 2016, and the supply contract is expected to last 4-5 years, according to the company. The company says it began building the relationship with the client more than a year previously. The orders reportedly cover 20-30 models of SMD LED lighting modules.

The firm expects that with increasing shipments, SMD LED lighting modules will make up 5% of its 2017 consolidated revenues. The company also notes that it is experiencing growing demand for infrared (IR) LED sensor modules used in printers, industrial control, and home-use sweeping robots in 2017. The company says it has also obtained orders for IR LED sensor modules with shipments over the next year.
