Nichia’s Direct Mountable Chip LED “Highly Commended” at Lux Awards 2017

On November 16, 2017, Nichia was awarded the “Highly Commended” at LUX Awards 2017 in London, organized by Lux Live and the Lighting Industry Association (LIA). Nichia’s product, Direct Mountable Chip, was competing in the “Enabling Technology” category and was rewarded for its creativity and sustainability in lighting enabling new solid-state lighting designs from its innovative LED package technology.

Nichia has introduced a new generation of LED package which overcomes the limitations of early Chip Scale Package (CSP) products. NCSW/LE17A, NVSW/LE21A LEDs feature a special reflective “wall” which blocks the light emitted at the sides of the die and redirects it towards the front surface. The lower side emission allows NCSW/LE17A, NVSW/LE21A LEDs to be assembled in high density clusters with small risk of optical shadowing or cross-talk. This technology offers a breakthrough in lumen density capabilities and higher luminaire efficiency for various lighting applications.

Due to the advantages of NCSW/LE17A, NVSW/LE21A with smaller cross-talk, compact design with small mechanical foot print and flexible design with smaller optics, LED modules and lighting systems perform with minimal lumen loss and minimal color shift. NCSW/LE17A, NVSW/LE21A can be used as the LED of choice for modules in various applications: tunable white systems, direct replacement for standard high-power LEDs, Chip-on-Board (CoB) replacement and customization.
