Nichia is again or the patent warpath. On June 29, 2017, Nichia Corporation filed a patent infringement lawsuit in against HTC in Germany at the District Court Düsseldorf. The lawsuit is against HTC Corporation, a Taiwan-based smartphone manufacturer, and its affiliates HTC Germany GmbH, HTC Europe Co. Ltd. as well as Digital River Ireland Ltd., a global vendor that operates HTC’s European web shop. In the patent lawsuit, Nichia is seeking rendering accounts and damages. The lawsuit alleges that HTC’s smartphone (HTC U Ultra) equipped with white LED infringes Nichia’s YAG patent EP 0936682 (DE 69702929).
