LG Display is showcasing its latest OLED lighting advancements at Light+Building 2018 in Frankfurt, Germany, from March 18 to 23. Among the OLED technologies that the company will show is the newly launched Luflex brand of bendable and rollable OLED panels. With the theme of “Infinite Light,” LG Display will reveal several innovative OLED lighting products.
LG Display says that its these OLED light panels deliver soft and natural light with less blue, thereby lessening eye fatigue. The thin and flexible form of the panels enables unique designs. The name Luflex combines the Latin word lux, which means light, and the English word flex, which refers to flexibility in physical form (bendability and rollability) but also in its application.
Luflex Panels can be Twisted and Rolled
According to LG Display, Luflex panels rolled and twisted with up to a 30mm radius of curvature without degrading any functionality. The panels’ thickness of just 0.41mm in addition to its ability to bent and curved offers a unique design potential.
LG Display reports that it is supporting Luflex with improved production capacity from the completion of its 5th generation (1,100mm x 1,250mm) OLED light panel production line in Gumi, South Korea, in Dec. 2017. The OLED light panel production line features a monthly capacity of 15,000 sheets, which is about a 30-fold expansion in OLED area compared to the existing 2nd generation production line that produces 370mm x 470mm OLED panels in Gumi with a monthly capacity of 4,000 sheets. Also, the company intends to gradually ramp up the production capacity of the new production line.
Company to Introduce CSO Lights with Luflex
LG Display will introduce its Crystal Sound OLED (CSO) Lights with Luflex. The Crystal Sound OLED (CSO) Lights extending the use of the company’s CSO technology for its TV panels to OLED light panels. The paper-thin OLED light panel serves as a speaker diaphragm. The sound emanates directly from the panel which the exciters on the back vibrate. So, the CSO lights offer a natural lighting installation that also serves as a speaker that delivers premium sound.
“We launched Luflex to create OLED lights that catch your eyes and comfort them with their natural light,” said Sung Soo Park, Vice President and Head of the OLED Light Business Division at LG Display. “We also expanded our production line with the belief in the unlimited potential of OLED lighting. We are glad to be able to produce 30 times the capacity of lighting as before and are confident that Luflex will soon be lighting up spaces all around the world.”
