Illumitex Inc., a producer of LED lighting for horticulture, reported that the company has launched a new consulting division. The company’s LED lighting technology can provide the sole source of light for indoor horticulture operations and offers active photosynthetic radiation for horticulture.
The consulting division intends to help indoor growers become more profitable. The new service, which the company calls Hortitecture Lighting Solutions, offers beginning-to-end consultation from Illumitex’s team of renowned plant scientists. Available now, Illumitex said it built its Hortitecture Solution to complement its line of LED products for indoor growing.
The company said that its team of experts will serve as both off- and on-site advisors.
The company’s experts plan to provide growers the necessary knowledge to help them maximize yield and save energy.
The company hopes that the service can reduce the time required for research and testing by individual farmers. Illumitex says that its consultation service for Hortitecture greatly reduces the average 12-18 months farmers need to get a farm to reach operating capacity. Enabling farmers to reach operating capacity much sooner allows growers to achieve profitability faster.
“Even the savviest growers need guidance to achieve the best practices in the emerging field of indoor growing,” said Paul Hardej, VP of Hortitecture Solutions at Illumitex. “Recognizing this need was our inspiration for offering a service that will guide customers through every step of the growing process using LED lighting — from planning to implementation. We will design individualized solutions for clients in multiple horticulture sectors, ensuring maximized commodity production, above and beyond the typical services provided by other LED lighting companies.”
The team of top plant scientists, which the company refers to as the Green Genius squad includes: Rebecca Knight, Ph.D., Paul Gray, Senior Plant Scientist, and Paul Hardej, VP of Hortitecture Solutions. Illumitex recently brought on Rebecca Knight to head up horticulture lighting R&D. The team plans to work with lighting customers on early stage planning, design consultation throughout the project process. The design consultation will include electrical system design, custom lighting fixture design and manufacturing and customer lighting controls design and implementation.
Ultimately the consultants want to help customers create the perfect “light recipe” to maximize yield from the beginning.
In addition to technical knowledge the Hortitecture Solutions service also helps identify potential cost-reduction methods, including financing, grants, and rebates. According to Illumitex, the financial aspect of the consultation services can help customers retain more of their capital.
“Throughout the exploratory process, we received great support from the Illumitex team,” said Ben Swan, co-founder of Singapore-based vertical farm Sustenir. “Illumitex provides a wealth of knowledge regarding every aspect of urban farming.”
The company asserts that its unique lighting technology allows precise management of controlled environments. Through management of controlled environments and the use of the right light recipe, the company says that customers can learn to maximize crop production and profits, improve plant mass, and produce consistent yields.
