Tokyo-based firm Idemitsu Kosan Co.,Ltd. announced that to meet the increasing demand for organic light-emitting diode (OLED) materials in China, the company has decided to construct a manufacturing facility for OLED materials in Chengdu, China. In addition, Idemitsu Kosan plans to enhance its technical support for Chinese customers.
Smartphones and large TVs are increasingly employing OLED displays and TVs. In China, with support from the government’s policy to encourage growth in the display industry, leading display makers have increased their investment in OLED display manufacturing facilities in recent years.
New Idemitsu Facility to be Third OLED Fabrication Facility
After Idemitsu’s OLED materials factory in Omaezaki, Shizuoka commenced operations in 2007, and the OLED materials plant in Paju, Gyeonggi-do, Korea started operating in 2012, the company has so far supplied its own OLED materials primarily to Korean customers.
The firm says that the new facility will help ensure a stable supply of OLED materials for its Chinese customers. Commercial production at the new Chengdu plant, which will be the company’s third OLED production facility, is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2020.
